Who we are
Saint John Community Development Corporation has served Ward 8 since 2007 — expanding education, health, and opportunity for the residents of Anacostia.
Our mission
Saint John Community Development Corporation, Inc. (SJCDC) is a Washington, D.C. nonprofit corporation, incorporated in November 2007 and recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity in 2008.
SJCDC provides access to services and facilities that sustain and enhance people's quality of life. Our long-term goal is to empower the community with positive, life-long improvements — primarily in Anacostia and across Washington, D.C.
We serve children, youth, teenagers, young adults, and adults, offering the opportunity to take part in a variety of programs throughout the year. Increased self-confidence and stronger community ties are benefits that reach well beyond any single service.
What guides us
We meet real needs with consistency and care — showing up for our neighbors year after year, in ways big and small.
Through education, health, and skills, we help residents build the knowledge and confidence they need to thrive in school, work, and life.
Local service making a world of difference. We believe lasting change is built together, with and for the people of Ward 8.
Our story
The corporation
SJCDC is organized as a nonprofit charitable, religious, and educational organization under Section 501(c)(3). We provide educational, health, computer-training, and community services to children, teenagers, young adults, and adults — giving people the knowledge and skills they need to achieve in school and in the workplace.
The vision is one of local service making a world of difference through community involvement.
Stronger together
Nearly everything SJCDC accomplishes happens in collaboration. Over the years we've worked alongside churches, health providers, food programs, and civic partners across Washington, D.C.
Sustainability
Nonprofits are asked to do more with less. SJCDC plans for the long term — grounding the work in clear values, community mapping, and vision-and-mission planning so the organization can keep serving Anacostia for years to come.
We raise support through charitable giving, grants, corporate philanthropy, and community fundraising — including efforts like Give to Max Day — and welcome capital-campaign and planned-giving partners who want to invest in Ward 8's future.
