What we do
SJCDC delivers education, health, community-support, and youth programs designed with — and for — the residents of Anacostia.
Learning is at the core of empowerment. SJCDC provides tutoring for children and adults, literacy and reading support, and hands-on computer-skills training — helping residents build the foundation they need to succeed in school and the workplace.

Good health is the ground everything else is built on. In collaboration with partners like Unity Health Care, SJCDC brings health education and screenings directly to the community — addressing the issues that matter most to Ward 8 families.

When neighbors need help, SJCDC shows up. We host community meals, distribute food in partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank and Horton's Kids, and provide direct assistance to families — especially around the holidays.
The next generation is our greatest investment. SJCDC connects young people to mentorship, hands-on learning, and enrichment — from garden projects to summer programs — that build confidence and open doors.
